I create a world that reflects my own playful nature. My artwork creates a presence through its wacky, weird, and lighthearted atmosphere. This desire stems from my childhood that was filled equally with lighthearted memories such as my goofy parents, Saturday morning cartoons, animated movies, flying kites, board games, and tea parties.
I create collaged 2D and 3D objects that relate to the human body. They connect to the ways in which we can, do, and could interact with each other through these objects. Examples include quilts, arm pieces, and collaged images. I work with the familiar through the use of found objects and well known items. These materials are very childlike, and can be considered crafty. I transform these materials by collaging them with different processes to create an entirely new and detailed surface.
In truth, reality sucks, and I am creating environments that extract those cares and burdens from others' lives, a place where time and space doesn’t seem real. I want it to be as if time and space has stopped, where anyone can easily be enveloped in these worlds. I want them to be able to imagine the possibilities and see the possibilities that can be imagined. With my work, I want to encourage others to keep their childlike senses intact. I want others to return to the levity and the wonderment of a child. I want to remind them that it is okay to have fun, to be in amazement, and to be in amusement, even with the passing of time and age.
